QUESTIONS
& ANSWERS
Q:
A FACILITY THAT I CLEAN WAS PREVIOUSLY CLEANED BY ANOTHER CONTRACTOR. AFTER
WE EXTRACT, BROWN SPOTS AND STAINS WICK UP AND REAPPEAR. I'M USING A BROWN-X CLEANER
BUT WITHOUT ANY LUCK. ANY IDEAS WHAT TO DO NEXT? Glen F., Louisville, KY PACIFIC:
Our first piece of advice is to always rinse carpet thoroughly and then dry to
remove chemical residue and start with fresh carpet. Next, try to determine what
was spilled so that you can choose the correct chemical composition to remove
the stain. There are spotting kits that include specific blends for juice drinks,
coffee, tar and gum, etc. Third, not all brands of chemicals are equally effective.
You may want to try another brand. The Carpet and Rug Institute is an excellent
source for finding out which chemicals and equipment they have found to be most
effective at cleaning carpet. The Brown-X is strong enough to have taken out the
stains you described. Finally, it's always possible that the stains are very old,
and the carpet fiber is permanently soiled or dyed. Q:
I'VE NOTICED LATELY THAT MY SCRUBBER ISN'T PICKING UP WATER AS GOOD AS IT USED
TO. WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM? Tom D., Indianapolis, IN PACIFIC:
It could be a few things. Check your squeegee for wear, and replace it if necessary.
You'll also want to check your squeegee setting and adjust it as necessary. The
squeegee should have a slight bend so that the edge is flush with the floor.
Third, there could be blockage in the vacuum recovery hose. Another possibility
is that the vacuum motor isn't performing to specifications and water draw is
lower than normal. Check with your sales representative or your service/repair
center for specific MANUALS/TROUBLESHOOTING guidelines on your specific model.
